Kettlebell Around the World
The around-the-body pass, also called the slingshot or around the world, is a kettlebell coordination drill. The bell travels in a full circle around the waist, handed from one hand to the other behind the back and in front. The exercise trains grip, timing, and shoulder mobility as a warm-up or transition. Used in the Kettlebell Complex active recovery week as a mobility and coordination drill.
Mechanics and load path
Stand tall with a braced trunk. Pass the bell around the waist, releasing it to the opposite hand behind the back and catching it again in front. Keep the hips still and the bell close to the body through the full circle. Five passes run in one direction before reversing.
The failure mode is a wandering torso. When the hips sway to chase the bell, the drill loses its grip and timing value. A tight trunk keeps the bell orbiting around a still center.
In the Kettlebell Complex protocol
Around-the-body pass runs in the active recovery week (S19) as a low-intensity mobility and coordination drill. It loops the bell around a still trunk to open the shoulders and rehearse hand-to-hand timing between heavier protocol cycles, away from the loaded complex lifts.
